A British travel lover visited IKEA’s first boutique hotel in the Canary Islands – and he had nothing but praise for the furniture giant’s new enterprise. One aspect really stood out too
Ever walked around in an IKEA store and wished you could just stay there all night? We wouldn’t blame you – as it is really tempting to sink down into one of the comfy-looking beds after a hectic day of shopping. Thankfully though, you don’t need to risk the wrath of store employees to have a kip IKEa-style.
That’s because the Scandinavian furniture store has now branched into hotels, which are decked out in all the familiar furniture that customers have grown to love. Intrigued by this concept, a travel fan recently booked into the world’s first IKEA hotel to see what all the fuss was about.
Dave, known as Mr TravelOn on social media, chronicled his experiences on TikTok after booking a stay at the accommodation in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. And as soon as he walked into the 27-room boutique establishment, he seemed to be rather impressed.
The hotel is adults only, promising very tranquil vibes. And Dave loved how stylish everything looked!
Dave gushed: “It is just amazing, with the inside all decorated with IKEA, and the outside having all garden furniture around a beautiful pool that just lights up the evening. The sunbeds are all IKEA here, which is what the novelty is all about – it’s such a cool idea.”
Upon entering his room, Dave was gobsmacked to find it decked out precisely like an IKEA showroom. He continued: “This is just amazing. The IKEA rug, even IKEA lights too.”
He soon noticed some furniture that looked familiar from a catalogue too – the desk! Then admiring the bathroom, he praised the “nice, big walk-in shower” and “good quality” pink IKEA towels.
Further impressed by the Krups coffee machine, the “nice big, fluffy blanket”, and his private terrace with views of the pool, Dave couldn’t help but exclaim: “That’s madness.”
Dave continued his tour in a second video, where he reviewed the hotel’s continental breakfast. Unfortunately, the traditional Swedish meatballs weren’t anywhere to be seen.
However, the crockery looked very familiar and the brekkie looked pretty tasty too – as Dave showcased the array of meats, cheeses, fruits, and bread available.
“It’s IKEA plates, IKEA cutlery… it’s IKEA everything,” Dave remarked. “The continental breakfast is included in the price – you get all your coffee – and what a place to enjoy breakfast, just sitting and looking over the pool from your table.”
After popping back up for a plate brimming with fruit and nuts, Dave concluded: “This has to be one of the healthiest breakfasts I have ever had. Fresh strawberries, blueberries, dragon fruit, raspberries – which you don’t normally see in the Canary Islands – and blackberries as well. It’s beautiful.”
Yet, it wasn’t the amenities, location, breakfast, or bedrooms that truly captured Dave’s interest.
From his review, it was clear that the standout feature was the extensive use of IKEA furnishings throughout the accommodation. After all, what’s an IKEA hotel without some quintessential Scandi chic?
Fancy a visit? IKEA describes the hotel on its website: “Step into this small, welcoming hotel in a busy city. It’s magnetic, yet soothing with references to nature giving off a calm warmth that energises and grounds. This modern hotel lobby and meeting area supports your guests’ needs (business, leisure, both) by being casual, practical and versatile in contemporary surroundings.”
